Arcos de la Frontera

The famous "pueblos blancos" that dot the Andalucían countryside tend to begin to blend together in the mind after seeing two or three of them. But my day trip to Arcos de la Frontera, a village in the Cadiz province of Andalucía, was memorable because I was with my dear friend Carly, who was visiting from the states.

When it's all said and done, Arcos is, in my opinion, just another pueblo blanco. But a couple of things did stand out. The church tower, with its purple hue, flat, arabic-style top, and royal blue gemstones, looked like it belonged in a fairy tale. It was intriguing, and far from the standard pueblo church tower.

Lonely Planet describes Arcos de la Frontera as "blinding." We couldn't help but agree, as the sun shining on the white-washed buildings wasn't easy on the eyes.
